VEHICLE EXTRICATION – THE NEXT GENERATION: COMMUNICATION

by R. Höfig

Effective communication will, in the first instance, establish and maintain a safe working environment and reduce the likelihood of accidents involving members of the team. Identifying risks and hazards is only useful if they are communicated at the right time in the right way. It is important that we use the correct and most appropriate method of communication and ensure that we have effective communication skills; strong, clear and succinct. This is especially important during times of stress where the environment may not be conducive with communication. I feel that we do not practice our communication enough. Our training must test our human factors as well as our practical skills and that includes how and when we communicate, who we communicate with and how we check understanding. It tends to become rather methodical and ‘scripted‘ rather than focused and meaningful; we should place more emphasis on this skill. Communication underpins all human factors. Vehicle Extrication – The NEXT GENERATION asks us to consider how we as a team communicate. How do we talk to other agencies? Communication is key to delivering a successful outcome in a challenging environment. The Book is available on lukas-store.com or on amazon.de
